PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for highly and highly efficiently removing all organic volatile substances including styrene contained in a styrene resin. SOLUTION: The method comprises mixing 0.01-10 wt.% of a substituting devolatilizing agent, selected from among non-reactive organic compounds having a boiling point within the range of 150-400°C at 760 mmHg, with the styrene resin containing organic volatile substances, and subsequently volatilizing and removing a part of the substituting volatilizing agent together with the organic volatile substances to reduce the organic volatile substance content to less than 150 ppm or the styrene content to less than 100 ppm.
