A process for manufacturing a multilayer element with a transparent surface electrode ( 2 ), an electroluminescent lighting film ( 3 ) and a second surface electrode ( 5 ) is characterized by the following steps: to form the transparent surface electrode, a thin-film multilayer system ( 2 ), comprising at least an electrically conducting part film ( 2.1 ) and thereafter a dielectric part film ( 2.2 ), is applied to a substrate ( 1 ); an EL lighting film ( 3 ) and at least the second surface electrode ( 5 ) are applied one after the other on the thin-film multilayer system ( 2 ) by screen printing; and the two surface electrodes ( 2.1, 5 ) are respectively connected to an electrical connection element ( 7 ) for connection to the voltage source.
