PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent stroke hitting resulting from a hydraulic servo on an engagement side during power-on down-shift with the recombination of friction engagement elements. SOLUTION: When stroke hitting occurs during servo starting control of hydraulic pressure on the engagement side, as shown in Fig, three infection points, a local maximum point, a minimum point and a maximum point, appear in output rotating acceleration. The local maximum point appears in stroke pressure control (the control of a servo A) for stroking a piston, and the minimum and maximum points appear in engagement preparing control for lowering stroke pressure and holding it at engagement stand-by pressure. When a difference in the output rotating acceleration between the local maximum and minimum points is greater than a first threshold value and a difference in output rotating change between the maximum and minimum points is greater than a second threshold value, the presence of tie-up is determined and a time for the control of the servo A is reduced.
