PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanical parking apparatus which has a mechanism for transferring a pallet between storage shelf rows and at the same time functioning as a pallet stopper upon transfer of the pallet. SOLUTION: According to the mechanical parking apparatus, a transfer device 20 arranged between a storage shelf row 3 on the side of a carriage traveling passage 2 and a storage shelf row 4 on a recessed side, for transferring the pallet 11, is formed of a rotary arm 21 having a rotation center arranged on the recessed-side storage shelf row 4, and being horizontally rotatable to reach the pallets 11, 11 in both the storage shelf rows 3, 4 via both ends thereof; a guide groove 26 formed in the pallet 11, for engaging with/disengaging from the rotary arm 21 to convert rotation into reciprocation; and a control device 25 for controlling the rotational location of the rotary arm 21 by engaging/disengaging the rotary arm 21 with/from the guide groove 26 to set the pallet 11 at a fixed location or to a released transferred location. Since the rotary arm 21 is arranged on the recessed-side storage shelf row 4, the pallet 11 can be transferred between the storage shelf rows 3, 4. Further when the rotary arm 21 is fixed by engaging with the guide groove 26 formed in the pallet 11, the rotary arm functions as the stopper of the pallet 11, to thereby simplify the structures of the transfer device and the stopper mechanism, leading to cost reduction of the parking apparatus.
