PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultrasonic flaw detector and an ultrasonic flaw detection method capable of performing a precise ultrasonic flaw detection even in a weld part of stainless steel. SOLUTION: An ultrasonic beam B is emitted toward an artificial defect 200 formed in a position corresponding to a point of inspection object 300 in advance, and a driving electric signal S3 in which a difference in delay time is set based on the reflected wave R is prepared. In an actual inspection, the ultrasonic beam B is emitted from a probe 12 by the driving electric signal S3, whereby the point of inspection object 300 is surely exposed to the ultrasonic beam B to perform its ultrasonic flaw detection. At this time, the artificial defect 200 is set to a size capable of surely reflecting the ultrasonic beam B, so that even if an inspection object 100 is the weld part 101 of stainless steel by which the ultrasonic beam B is apt to be scattered or deflected, the reflected wave can be surely caught to generate the driving electric signal S3.
