PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a maximum level detector for use in a corrosive or high humidity environment or the like, which is inexpensive and easy to set, and to provide a detection method thereof. SOLUTION: This maximum level detector 10 is set inside a manhole (sewage facility) 15, in an environment apt to generate corrosive or odorous gases or high humidity environment and is composed of a connecting body, comprising a number of cylindrical pits with a liquid inflow port 14a and an air discharge port 14b set in connection with each other.
