PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an Mg-containing Al alloy which can be excellently worked, for example, by drawing or forming and, even when subjected to severe forming, and the surface properties of which after the forming are satisfactory (particularly reduced surface ruggedness). SOLUTION: Regarding the Mg-containing Al alloy, the orientation of crystal grains in the sheet face in the alloy surface is measured. Provided that the area ratio (%) occupied by crystal grains having an orientation in the sheet face of within 10°from the (100) face is defined as A, and the area ratio (%) occupied by crystal grains having an orientation in the sheet face of within 20°from the (100) face as B, expression (1) 10≤B≤60 and expression (2) A/B≤0.50 are satisfied.
