PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To measure a peripheral surface temperature of a platen roller with high precision and at low cost. SOLUTION: The platen roller 19 of a color thermal printer is constituted of a platen shaft 35 and a conductive platen rubber 36. The platen shaft 35 is constituted of an insulative joint 38 and metal shafts 39a and 39b which are mounted to both ends of the joint 38. Constant current power source 41 applying constant current between both ends of the platen shaft 35, and a voltmeter 42 for measuring voltage between both ends are provided. In a roller temperature calculating section 46, an electric resistance value between both ends of the platen shaft 35 is found from a measured voltage value, and the peripheral surface temperature of the platen roller is calculated from the electric resistance value. Thereby, the peripheral surface temperature of the platen roller is inexpensively measured with high precision. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
