The present invention provides less expensive ink jet recording papers having high glossiness and high durability and being capable of quickly absorbing inks without causing bleeding. Accordingly, the present invention provides an ink jet recording paper having an ink-receiving layer provided on a porous resin film, wherein the porous resin film has a liquid absorption capacity measured in accordance with "Japan TAPPI No.51-87" of 0.5 ml/m<2> or above and the ink-receiving layer has a surface glossiness (JIS-28741: measuring method at 60 DEG ) of 40% or above. It is preferable that the ink jet recording paper contains at least one member selected from among alumina, alumina hydrate and amorphous silica in the ink-receiving layer.
