Quick action stop valve

The fast acting valve for interrupting a fluid flow has a shut-off component (2) with a stem (12) which extends outside the valve housing (1) where directly or through the intermediary of a lever arrangement it is retained by a locking element (17) in a position allowing passage of fluid between the shut-off component and valve seat (10). The shut-off component is constructed so that the mechanical pressure acting on the shut-off component on the fluid inlet side is greater than that acting on the outlet side so that the valve closes after the locking element releases the valve stem.
