948,149. Contact members for switches; electromagnetic relays. SANGAMO WESTON Ltd. May 25, 1960 [June 8, 1959], No. 18514/60. Heading H2B. An instrument type relay has a sharp-edged moving contact arranged to engage a fixed wire contact and to move over the surface thereof with scraping action during further contact movement. As shown, the moving contact 12 has a sharp edge 12a which first engages a limb 18b of a wire 18 secured to an arm 17 of a setting indicator 14. Further movement of the contact 12 is assisted by the action of a contact pressure reinforcing coil in series with contacts 12, 18b and mounted with the operating coil 10 and the edge 12a engages a resilient blade contact 21 which is also secured to the arm 17. As the wire 18 and blade 21 are stressed the edge 12a scraps both these members to ensure good contact. The moving contact 12 is made of a hard material such as rhodium, a rhodium alloy, the wire 18 is made of a soft noble metal such as gold, or a gold alloy and the blade 21 is made of platinum iridium. The wire 18 is crimped in a stainless steel tube 23 which is welded to the arm 17. |
