976,036. Making distributer troughs. UNITED STATES STONEWARE CO. Aug. 27, 1963 [Aug. 31, 1962], No. 33932/63. Heading B3A. [Also in Division B1] A method of making a trough or parting box for a distributer plate for a chemical treating tower comprises punching suitably shaped overflow openings 21 of, e.g. triangular or rectangular form in a metal sheet 20, forming flanges along the edges thereof, partially bending up the sides of the trough along lines 23, forming the inner edges 24 of the flanges and finally bending the sides vertically. The ends of the troughs are closed by separate sheets or by bending a portion of the side or bottom of the trough and welding. A parting box 11 having square sectioned openings is similarly constructed and mounted across, e.g. four troughs 12 via bridge members 35 welded to the flanges 22. The box is connected to the outer bridge members by screwed studs 37. The intermediate troughs may be located beneath the box, which may rest thereon, by pins 39. The assembly is located on and may be welded to a ledge 6 on the inside wall 7 of the tower and is supplied with liquid via inlet 9, the liquid flowing from the box into the troughs and on to a bed 15 of packing elements which may be covered by a hold-down plate. |
