PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus in which shading correction updating can be performed as required without troubling an operator so much. SOLUTION: When a remote diagnosis command is received from a center device, it is decided whether or not the other job is under execution (step ST1) and when any other job is not under execution, a quantity of light at present is acquired (step ST2). A quantity of light in the last shading correction updating is also acquired (step ST3). The quantity of light at present is compared to the quantity of light in the last updating (step ST4) and when the quantity of light at present is less than the quantity of light in the last updating, a shading updating instruction is outputted (step ST5).
