PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology with which the enhancement of luminance and the saving of electric power can be made consistent with each other, in a projection video display. SOLUTION: The configuration to divide the light from a light source side into a first light component heading toward a display element side and a second light component heading toward a direction which is different from that of the first light component and to use the first light component in forming an optical image, and the second light component as power source electric power by converting the same to electric power is employed.
