PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To refresh the display contents of respective pixels in the refresh period meeting the information holding time of liquid crystal display elements in a liquid crystal display device using the liquid crystal display elements of the long information holding time, and to immediately change the display contents when the pixel information is changed and to reduce the management burden for the purpose of refresh management. SOLUTION: The display device is provided with a refresh control means which writes the image information stored in an image memory into the liquid crystal display elements corresponding to the respective pixels of a liquid crystal display part in the refresh time Tref of a time interval shorter than the information holding time Thol of the liquid crystal display elements. The refresh control means rewrites the image information of all pixels including the image information of the pixels which has changed immediately without waiting for the lapse of the refresh time when a change is detected by an image information change detecting means, and determines the point in time of the rewrite so as to make it the start point of the next refresh time.
