PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To refresh a display content of each pixel with a refresh cycle balancing with information holding time of a liquid crystal display element, further to immediately change the display content when pixel information is changed and at the same time, to reduce a burden of control for refresh control in a liquid crystal display device using the liquid crystal display element with long information holding time. SOLUTION: In the liquid crystal display device using the liquid crystal display element with long information holding time, a plurality of m types of refresh cycles, formed by segmentizing a refresh time period Tref into m pieces, are installed. For the liquid crystal display element to which picture information is written with a change control means, refresh controls from the next time onward are carried out with the refresh cycle of which the starting time is just before write time point of the picture information with a refresh control means.
