PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a civil engineering protective mat and a revetment work method using the protective mat, easy in construction, causing no corrosion and settlement, capable of revetment over a long period by holding a natural scenery, safe in suspension, and easy in accurate laying. SOLUTION: This civil engineering protective mat is characterized by inserting and fixing a joining piece having a collar part in a head part into and to a recessed fitting part via a mat-like body, by joining a plurality of massive stone materials bored with the recessed fitting part fittable with the joining piece, and the mat-like body woven by a uniaxially oriented thermoplastic synthetic resin filament body having fineness of 1,000 to 7,000 dt, capable of inserting the joining body and forming a cylindrical part capable of inserting a rigid bar-shaped body into one side of at least an edge part.
