PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a structure making a tool post on the back side and that of on the front side common so as to be especially suitable for a lathe with two opposed main spindles, in which a left main spindle and a right main spindle are arranged oppositely to each other on the same axial line in the horizontal direction, the position of the left main spindle is fixed, the right main spindle is made freely movable in the main spindle direction (the Z-axis direction ), and turret tool posts are arranged to the back side and the front side of a slant type bed. SOLUTION: A headstock 4 on the side where the tool post is arranged to the front side is mounted to a Z-axis guide 14 of the tool post 16 on the back side and made movable in the Z-axis direction. Consequently, a space 22 is generated between the base part of the headstock 4 on the side and the tool post 10 arranged to its front side. A margin is given to an installation space of the tool post 10 on the front side by the space. The tool post having the same structure as that of the tool post 16 on the back side can be arranged.
