PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive and miniaturized rechargeable vacuum cleaner capable of reducing the aged deterioration of a secondary battery by efficiently cooling the secondary battery. SOLUTION: The rechargeable vacuum cleaner comprises the secondary battery 4 stored in a battery chamber (not shown) into which exhaust gas of an inverter motor 2 flows, a thermistor 18 for detecting the temperature of the secondary battery 4, and battery voltage dividing resistances 22a and 22b for detecting the voltage of the secondary battery 4. The battery voltage dividing resistances 22a and 22b have a first voltage threshold to stop the inverter motor 2 and a second voltage threshold higher than the first voltage threshold. The mode of the invertor motor 2 is shifted to the low speed rotation mode when the temperature of the secondary battery 4 is a prescribed temperature or higher and the battery voltage lowers to the second voltage threshold. As a result, the current load applied to the secondary battery 4 is significantly reduced, while the secondary battery 4 is cooled with the exhaust wind generated by the low-speed rotation of the invertor motor 2.
