The invention relates to a method and a device for detecting different types of cells in a biological sample. According to the invention, an image (1201 - 120n) of the biological sample (109) is produced; said image (1201 - 120n) is normalised in terms of a distribution of the image values, and the normalised image is then divided into a plurality of image sections; a pre-determined category is associated with each image section, according to the pre-determined properties of the image section; the individual cells in each image section are detected and characteristics of said individual cells are determined; and the individual cells are then associated with a certain cell type on the basis of the detected characteristics.
