PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a block copolymer which can well disperse a functional substance such as a colorant in a solvent, and to provide an ink composition.

SOLUTION: This block copolymer comprising two or more segments is characterized in that at least one segment is a gradient copolymer comprising two or more monomers. The block copolymer comprising a triblock copolymer comprising segments A, B and C is characterized in that the segment A is a gradient copolymer. The segment A has a higher hydrophobic property than those of the segments B and C. At least one segment has response by changing characteristics against stimulation. The ink composition comprises the block copolymer, a solvent or dispersant, and a colorant.
