PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accelerate multi-value processing using an error diffusion method. SOLUTION: Image data arrayed in X and Y directions in a two-dimensional manner are made into multi-value data through the error diffusion method by using parallel processing using two CPUs. A first CPU makes pixel sequences into multi-value pixel sequences sequentially along the X direction of the image data using the error diffusion method. An error-determined pixel wherein an error diffused in accordance with the progress of processing by the first CPU is completely determined appears on a pixel sequence adjacent to the pixel sequence processed by the first CPU. A second CPU makes this error determined pixel into a multi-value pixel using the error diffusion method in parallel with the processing by the first CPU. Such parallel processing accelerates multi-value processing using the error diffusion method. An error determined pixel appears on a further adjacent pixel sequence as the progress of processing by the second CPU, so that three or more kinds of processing may also be executed in parallel.
