PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tracing device capable of observing and recording wide visual field. SOLUTION: The tracing device applies gnomonic cylindrical projection and is equipped with a tracing plate whose material is a soft transparent sheet, a main body having structure to hold the tracing plate in a semicylindrical state, and a collimator having structure to fix an observer's viewing point. An observer observes the motion or the aspect of a heavenly body over about 180°in a horizontal direction through the collimator and records the motion or the aspect on the tracing plate. The device is used as a teaching tool assisting to understand perspective in fine arts, map-projection in geography, and projective geometry in mathematics in addition to astronomical observation in science.
