PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a telescope main body and a telescope with which a photographic image in focus is obtained regardless of the degree of ambient brightness by simple constitution. SOLUTION: The terrestrial telescope main body 1 is equipped with: an imaging optical system constituted of an objective optical system 11, a focus lens 31, a beam splitter 56, a reduction optical system 18, and an optical filter unit 17; a CCD imaging device 16 picking up a subject image formed through the imaging optical system; a reduction optical system driving mechanism 19 functioning as a focus driving means for moving a subject image forming position; a brightness sensor 71 detecting the ambient brightness; and a control means for controlling the driving position of the mechanism 19 based on the brightness detected by the sensor 71.
