PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an anti-glare film for achieving reduction in irregularities of a screen, without sacrificing glare-shielding property, and to provide an image display device superior in visibility, using it. SOLUTION: In the anti-glare film having minute irregularities on its surface, a region higher than an average height of the irregularities is a projection, a region lower than the average height of the irregularities is a recess, and an individual projection projected area or recess projected area is found. The frequency of the projections or the recesses are found by prescribed are units, and further, the frequency of apparent areas are calculated in the prescribed area units according to (area×frequency). When the frequency of the apparent area of the obtained projection or recess is expressed by a histogram, the anti-glare film 20 is provided in that a peak value appears at a position of 300μm<SP>2</SP>or smaller, and the half-value width of the peak is 60μm<SP>2</SP>or smaller.
