PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly efficient generator of magnetic fields of a magnetic resonance device structured as compact as possible to generate time-variant magnetic fields and a magnetic resonance device with the generator of magnetic fields. SOLUTION: A generator of time-variant magnetic fields of a magnetic resonance device, which has an examination space at least to receive an object under examination, comprises the following features: the conductors of a gradient coil arrangement of the generator define a region which surrounds the examination space in part; the region contains at least one subregion that is free of conductors of the gradient coil arrangement and contains conductors of a high-frequency antenna of the generator; and a field reflux space for fields of the high-frequency antenna, starting from the subregion extends away from the examination space and is delimited on the other side of the subregion by a high-frequency shield.
