A spinneret suitable for making conjugate filaments comprises sheets or laminations 11 provided with spaced parallel slots 20 and 21 extending at an angle from the edge of the sheet and terminating in holes 24, 25, sheets or laminations 12 provided with spaced parallel slots 40 extending at a different angle from the edge of the sheet and terminating in holes 28, 35, and plates 13 having a plurality of bores 29, 39. A sheet machined as at 11 may be inverted and utilized as a sheet 12 and the end plates 13 may be further bored to form manifolds 30, 38 for the spinning solutions. A first spinning solution is withdrawn from a source 48 by a pump 49 and forced into the manifold 30 in the uppermost plate 13 and flows through the first fluid passageway formed by bores 29 and holes 24, 28 in the direction of arrows 31 to and through the slots 20 in the sheets 11 and the slots 41 in the sheets 12. The second spinning solution is withdrawn from a source 52 by a pump 53 and forced into the manifold 38 in the lowermost plate 13, and flows through the second fluid passageway formed by bores 39 and holes 35, 25 in the direction of arrows 39 to and through the slots 21 in the sheets 11 and the slots 40 in the sheets 12. Combination of the two spinning solutions at the orifices results in the production of conjugate filaments. Fig. 2 is a spinneret construction for forming conjugate filaments made up of three spinning solutions. Three sheets 60, 61 and 62 are provided with slots 66, 67 and 68 and clamped together so that the ends of the slots 66-68 meet and overlap each other at a common point on the face of the spinneret to form a spinning orifice. Slots 66-68 diverge from these intersections at the spinneret face to holes 71, 72, 73. Three spinning solutions are fed to the holes 71-73 from manifolds such as 30 and 38, flow through their respective slots and meet at the spinneret face to form a threecomponent conjugate filament. By utilizing four or more sheets in place of three above, conjugate filaments having four or more components may be made.
