PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an optical film with a low phase difference, a low residual solvent and a less surface defect by a simple manner at a low cost. SOLUTION: The optical film with the low phase difference, the low residual solvent and the less surface defect can be produced by the manufacturing method comprising a film processing step by a tenter apparatus in which the step contains at least two steps comprising (C) a transporting step under spreading a transporting width of the film from L<SB>1</SB>(mm) to 1.02L<SB>1</SB>-1.07L<SB>1</SB>(mm) and (D) a transporting step under spreading a carrying width from L<SB>3</SB>(mm) to 0.95L<SB>3</SB>-0.99L<SB>3</SB>(mm) and the two steps are succeeded in the order.
