PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical modulator and a projector preventing the occurrence of pixel deviation. SOLUTION: In the optical apparatus, the supporting plate 51B of a holding frame 51 for storing a liquid crystal panel 441 is constituted of an alloy of iron and nickel. Then, a difference between the expansion/contraction quantity of the supporting plate 51B and that of a dust plate 441D of the liquid crystal panel 441 is reduced, then, distortion due to the difference of coefficient of linear expansion hardly occurs. Besides, the upper panel fixing plate 54A and the lower panel fixing plate 54B for fixing the supporting plate 51B of the holding frame 51 are constituted of an alloy of iron and nickel. Then, there is no difference between the coefficient of linear expansion of the panel fixing plate 54 and that of the supporting plate 51B fixed on the panel fixing plate 54, and then, the panel fixing plate 54 and the supporting plate 51B show the same dimensional change (expansion and contraction) against heat.
