PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vacuum cleaner which can perform the insect killing, the sterilization of a cleaning surface, or the decomposition of stain adhering to the cleaning surface by a simple device without using a chemical or a detergent, and to provide a purifying method employing the vacuum cleaner. SOLUTION: A plasma generating device 71 which generates active species fed to a surface to be cleaned is provided at a suction port body 21. And a feeding device 83 which feeds at least either one of air containing moisture, a gas other than air, or a liquid particulate in the vicinity of the plasma generating device 71 is provided on the suction port body 21. The plasma which is generated by the plasma generating device 71 is fed to the surface to be cleaned, and stain or the like of the surface to be cleaned can be decomposed. And by feeding steam or the like by the feeding device 83, the region of the plasma generated by the plasma generating device 71 is expanded, and the concentration of the active species can be increased.
