The invention relates to a data-storage device that comprises means for protecting a data-access part (2) against contamination and/or damage. Such a protected data­storage device comprises a carrier (1) that comprises the data-access part (2). The data­storage device further comprises a cover (3) that is movably attached to the carrier (1). The 5 data-access part (2) is protected against contamination and/or damage in that the cover (3) is brought near to or into contact with the data-access part (2) as long as the data-storage device is outside a controlled and protected environment.
