<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tone converting device that can execute an optimum tone conversion of a contour part and a non-contour part in an image without being affected by diffusion and texture of binary data in any area of an image, and executes image adjustment suited to the object image. <P>SOLUTION: The device comprises a first conversion means to execute data conversion so that a K-value image data is concentrated in the neighborhood of a median of the range of signals of the K-value image data, an N-value conversion processing means to convert the data-converted K-value image data to an N-value data (K>N), an estimation means to estimate an M-value image data (N<M) from the N-value data generated by the conversion processing means, and a second conversion means to inversely convert the M-value image data (N<M) in conjunction with the data conversion by the first conversion means. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
