<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight device having an inclined light emitting surface and with uniformized luminance of the light-emitting surface. <P>SOLUTION: A front surface side diffusion plate 101 is inclined at a +θ angle with respect to a center line 104 of the backlight device 100, which is the alignment center line of lamps 102, and a rear surface side diffusion plate 101 is inclined at a -θ angle with respect to the center line 104.
