PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the handling performance of a nitrogen-containing compound having high melting point such as a hydrazide by making the compound to be soluble in an oil and to use the compound as a lubricating oil additive or a lubricating oil composition usable from a low temperature to a high temperature. SOLUTION: The oil-soluble metal complex is produced by mixing (A) a nitrogen-containing compound expressed by general formula (1) (R<SB>1</SB>is a 1-30C hydrocarbon group or a 1-30C functional hydrocarbon group; R<SB>2</SB>to R<SB>5</SB>are each independently a 1-30C hydrocarbon group, a 1-30C functional hydrocarbon group or H; X<SB>1</SB>is O, N or S; X<SB>2</SB>is O or S; m is 0-2; and n is 0 or 1) and (B) an organic metal salt and/or an organic metal complex.
