PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of driving a recorder which is superior in a recording characteristic irrespective of variation in resistance values of recording elements, and to provide an element substrate of a recording head, the recording head, a head cartridge, and the recorder. SOLUTION: A value of a resistor indicative of a resistance value of a recording element provided on a circuit substrate of the recording head is measured. Based on the value, a current value and a pulse width to be applied to drive the recording element is controlled so as to apply an optimum current to the recording element on the substrate and to make the application energy constant.
