To provide better ride characteristics, the sidewalls of a pneumatic tyre 2 and/or an inner tube 1 comprise at least one layer of an elastomeric mixture having a hysteresis loss of at least 35% as measured at 20‹ C. by a Scott's pendulum. Such a layer when embodied in a tyre 2 with a carcass reinforcement 3 may lie either outside or inside the reinforcement 3, or on both sides thereof as shown by the heavily cross-hatched portions 5 in Fig. 1. A tubeless pneumatic tyre may have an internal airtight lining formed of the mixture. Suitable rubbers for the mixture are natural rubber, butyl or butyl bromide rubber, and styrene butadiene rubber.
