A sewing machine, comprising a tension detection means (26) detecting a tension acting on a sewn material (A) delivered from a rotating storage body (10) and a drive means (14) for rotatingly driving the rotating storage body. The driving of the drive means is controlled based on the detection of the tension by the tension detection means. When the tension acting on the sewn material is increased, the rotating storage body is rotatingly driven by driving the drive means to smoothly deliver the sewn material. This machine is advantageous when the size of the rotating storage body is increased so that a plenty of sewn material can be storably wrapped therearound.
