<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which is appropriately operated while realizing power saving by appropriately energizing the sensor of a process cartridge only when required. <P>SOLUTION: In a digital copying machine 1, a timing control part 52 outputting a sensor power supply signal for every fixed period and also outputting a data storage timing signal when the fixed period elapses after outputting the sensor power supply signal outputs the sensor power supply signal to a power supply control part 53 controlling power supply to the sensor or the like and the stop of the power supply based on the sensor power supply signal. After the power is supplied to the sensor or the like 7 by the control part 53, the control part 52 outputs the data storage timing signal to a data fetching part 54, which stores a signal from the sensor or the like 7.
