PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information storage/reproduction device capable of shortening a time required for referring to an FAT management table for an improvement in a file access speed. SOLUTION: In the initialization of a system, the FAT management table is read to a buffer memory 95 constructed of an SDRAM and the like capable of reading/writing at a high speed, and referring to the FAT management table stored in the buffer memory 95, access to the file is operated. In this way, a time necessary for referring to the FAT management table can be shortened, and a file access time can be shortened. When the FAT management table on an HDD 24 is updated with contents of the FAT management table stored in the buffer memory 95 in the termination of the system, consistency between both the FAT management tables on the HDD 24 and the buffer memory 95 can be maintained.
