PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a toner by which a toner containing uniformly and finely dispersed colorant particles and having high transparency and color reproducing property is obtained. SOLUTION: When the toner is manufactured, in a first melt kneading step in which a mixture including at least a first binder resin, a colorant and water is heated and kneaded to obtain a first kneaded material and the amount of free water in the first kneaded material is adjusted to a specific amount to obtain a colorant masterbatch, the colorant masterbatch is prepared as a water-containing colorant masterbatch having a water content of 2-25 mass%.
