PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical device maintaining the position of an optical component for an optical path on a proper position, and also to provide an optical communication system using the optical device. SOLUTION: The optical device 1 is provided with a first optical unit 2, a connection part 3 and a second optical unit 4. The first optical unit 2 is composed of a sleeve 6, a cylindrical capillary 7 held by the sleeve 6, and an optical fiber 8 incorporated on the central axis of the capillary 7. The second optical unit 4 is composed of a lens 9 and a cylindrical holding part 11 which holds the lens 9. The connection part 3 connects the first optical unit 2 with the second optical unit 4. Electric resistances 13 are attached to the peripheral surface of the connection part 3 at a regular interval. Electric current is selectively supplied to the electric resistance to generate heat, thereby, the connection part 3 is partially expanded and deformed, and the position and posture of the optical fiber 8 for the lens 9 are adjusted.
