PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an ink jet printer capable of recording a good image by bringing the humidity and temperature in the housing into good state depending on the type of the recording medium. SOLUTION: The ink jet printer 1 for recording an image on a recording medium 99 by ejecting ink from recording heads 5, 6, 7 and 8 comprises a humidity detector 13 for detecting humidity in the housing 1a, a dehumidifier 16 for dehumidifying the inside of the housing, and a control section 20 storing target humidity set values corresponding to the types of recording medium and controlling the dehumidifier such that the humidity in the housing has the target humidity set value based on the comparison results between the humidity detected by the humidity detector and the target humidity set value.
