PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inkjet recording apparatus which has the ease of use both at an office and at ordinary homes by improving the operability through installation of the function of automatically switching a printing mode and the function of switching the printing mode at a recording apparatus body. SOLUTION: The inkjet recording apparatus is equipped with a quantity of light detecting means for detecting a brightness in the periphery of the recording apparatus; a printing mode control means for switching the printing mode of the recording apparatus when the detected result of the quantity of light detecting means is not smaller than a predetermined value, and switching the printing mode of the recording apparatus also when the detected result is smaller than a predetermined value; and a printing mode switching means enabling manual switching of the printing mode of the recording apparatus.
