<p>A method and apparatus for re-insulating underground steam pipes in situ includes the steps of creating at least one hole (14) in the ground exactly above the steam pipe (20), which is positioned in conduit (18), drilling a hole (47) in the conduit (18) without breaking the steam pipe (20), inserting a tubing (48) into the hole (14) so that the first end of the tubing is positioned in the drilled hole (47) and the second end of the tubing ends on the steam pipe (20), connecting the second end of the pipe to the pumping system, pumping a synthetic foam (60) through the tubing (48) into surroundings of the steam pipe (20) using pumping system, pulling the tubing (48) from the hole (47) as well as from the hole (14) in the ground, vulcanisation and foam (60) solidification on heat insulation of the steam pipe.</p> |
