<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer and a print client capable of limiting the printable place. <P>SOLUTION: Each of a print client 20 and a printer 30 forms a public key dependent on the positional information at the time of installation, respectively, and holds the public key thus formed. On the other hand, each of the print client 20 and the printer 30 forms a random number, respectively, and transmits the random number to the partner while encrypting it with the partner's public key. Upon receiving the encrypted random number, each of the print client 20 and the printer 30 forms a private key dependent on the positional information at the time point and then decrypts the encrypted random number using that private key thus acquiring the random number. Since a common key is formed using the partner's random number thus acquired and the random number formed by itself, the print client 20 and the printer 30 hold the identical common key.
