<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for enhancing a local luminance of a video, and a computer-readable recording medium with a computer program stored thereto. <P>SOLUTION: The luminance expression capability possessed by a display video is complemented or maximized, and the luminance of a portion inferior in the luminance space of an input video or required to be improved therein can be improved by a step of selecting the partial region to be compensated for the luminance in the luminance space, where the luminance of the input video is expressed and a step of compensating for the luminance of the selected partial region. Also, the partial identification power of the input video can be enhanced, the contrast of the video can be improved, and distortions of the color components included in the high luminance and low luminance spaces can be prevented. Compensation for the luminance can be performed at a high speed without causing the boundary with a surrounding region, and the partial contrast of the input video can be further improved effectively in special cases, such that the luminance distribution of the input video is partly deviated, as in medical videos and aerial photographs. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
