PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To cut glass roving into a length of one inch (25.4 mm) or below to uniformly scattering cut rovings over a chopper without inserting a glass fiber base material in the chopper. SOLUTION: In this manufacturing apparatus of a sheet molding compound including a coating device for coating a separator film with an unsaturated polyester composition, a glass roving cutting roll, an impregnation device for superposing a separate film coated with the unsaturated polyester composition to which glass fibers are supplied and another one separate film coated with the unsaturated polyester composition one upon another and impregnating the glass fiber base material with the unsaturated polyester composition and a winder for winding the separate films holding the glass fiber base material, the glass roving cutting roll is provided so as to supply the glass fiber base material with a length of one inch or below and the angle between cutter blades has 15 degrees or above.
