PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a distributed system control method and an information processing apparatus allowing a user using a distributed system to easily grasp, on a real time basis, an environment surrounding himself or herself, that is, situations of other users and peripheral apparatuses. SOLUTION: In this distributed system wherein a plurality of user terminals and peripheral apparatuses are arranged by distributing them, information showing the current situation of the user using the plurality of user terminals, and information showing the current status of the peripheral apparatuses are kept, and updated according to the change of the situations; and the current situations 1501-1503 of users using other user terminals and the current situations 1506-1518 of the peripheral apparatuses are selectively displayed on the same screen for each of the plurality of user terminals. Information showing the relationship between the peripheral apparatuses and the user are further kept, and the peripheral apparatuses usable by the user selected based on the information are displayed on the screen.
