PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple and economical method for producing 3(4),8(9)-bisformyl-tricyclo[5.2.1.0<SP>2.6</SP>]decane by hydroformylating dicyclopentadiene and then distilling. SOLUTION: This hydroformylation of dicyclopentadiene is performed by 2 steps. In a first hydroformylation step, the reaction is performed in a heterogeneous reaction system by using a compound of a transition metal of group VIII of the periodic table containing a water soluble organic phosphorus (III) compound bonded in a complex state to obtain 8(9)-formyl-tricyclo[5.2.1.0<SP>2.6</SP>]decene-3, and in a second hydroformylation step, thus obtained 8(9)-formyl-tricyclo[5.2.1.0<SP>2.6</SP>]decene-3 is converted into 3(4),8(9)-bisformyl-tricyclo[5.2.1.0<SP>2.6</SP>]decane in a homogeneous organic phase in the presence of a group VIII transition metal compound.
