PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transfer device capable of reducing a working space in a storage shelf when articles are stored by the transfer device. SOLUTION: In this transfer device, the articles 30 are transferred from the storage shelf 22a of a storage chamber 21 to the storage shelf 24a of a storage chamber 23. The transfer device comprises a traveling vehicle 27 moving a body 31 on which the articles 30 are placed from the storage shelf 22a to the storage shelf 24a, forks 33a and 33b installed near both side faces of the body 31 and formed to hold both side faces of the articles 30, to be separated from each other, and extended/retracted, and a conveyor 32 installed on the body 31 and moving the articles 30 in the same direction as the extension/retraction direction of the forks 33a and 33b.
